Our Guiding Principles
Our five guiding principles are the product of many years’ experience, helping us ensure successful projects.
1. Understand the business questions
Many information systems don’t meet business users’ expectations, even though the project team believe they’ve met the specification. Often, this is because the team has utilised standard approaches to the measurement and reporting of key variables. We begin every project by researching and analysing the relevant business operations and processes. Once we’ve got to grips with the fundamental business issues, we’ll suggest insightful ways to achieve the desired objectives.
2. Enhance and monitor data quality
Information systems are only as good as the data they contain. There are technologies that will help you control the problem of incomplete, inconsistent or inaccurate data, but longer-term, there’s really no technical fix. To ensure data quality, you need the commitment of those who ‘own’ the business processes in question. We make it part of our job to help
you get that commitment.
3. Simplify the design
Information systems that work well permit non-technical people to visualise and control core business processes. To achieve this, we need first to restructure the data so they reflect business users’ view of the organisation. A correctly configured database makes it possible for users to interrogate the data in a way that makes sense to them.
4. Communicate effectively
Whether you want to focus people's attention, instigate new behaviour or manage change, new information should be relevant and of immediate interest to those who use it. We make sure people receive only the information they want, need or are permitted to access. We also help you work with them to make sure they understand how to make good use of the information that will become available.
5. Drive people to action
The purpose of information systems is to bring about action. We make sure information is presented to end-users in a way that enables them to take action, make business decisions or ask deeper questions.
